A folding electric bike solves two problems at once: distance and space. It fits in a car boot, under an office desk or in a small storage room, and it can be combined with a train or bus. But they aren't all good for the same job: a 17 kg folder and a 35 kg folding fat bike are very different vehicles. This comparison groups the models by the use that suits them best.

Prices are indicative at the time of publication (September 2026); the current price is shown on each product page. "Estimated real-world range" is NovoDix's own calculation: we divide the battery capacity by a consumption of 10–14 Wh/km, typical for mixed use with medium assistance, an adult weighing 75–85 kg and terrain with some hills. The figure claimed by the manufacturer is measured under ideal conditions.
The lightest: ENGWE Zip
If you're going to take it on a commuter train, carry it up stairs or squeeze it into a small lift, weight rules. The ENGWE Zip is the option for anyone who will be carrying it in their arms every day. In return, its 360 Wh battery gives about 25–35 km real-world: enough for a round trip to work in a medium-sized city, not for long rides.
Best for price: ENGWE P20
The ENGWE P20 stays under €1,000 and at 18.5 kg. It's a sensible entry point for getting around the city without overspending. Its motor torque (42 Nm) is modest: on long hills you'll have to pedal.
The best all-rounder: ENGWE O20 Boost
The O20 Boost combines a 720 Wh battery with 75 Nm of torque. In practice that's about 50–70 km real-world per charge, which means charging once or twice a week for a typical round trip to work. At 26.5 kg it's more of a boot bike than a train bike.
For hills: ENGWE L20 3.0 Pro
A mid-drive motor makes use of the bike's gears and performs better on long slopes than a hub motor. With 100 Nm, the L20 3.0 Pro is the best hill-climbing folding bike in our range. Its step-through frame makes it easy to get on and off in everyday clothes.
For trails: EP-2 Boost and Engine Pro 3.0 Boost
The 20 × 4-inch tyres absorb bumps, gravel and dirt. The EP-2 Boost is the affordable option; the Engine Pro 3.0 Boost adds 90 Nm and more battery. Both are quite heavy: think of them as bikes that fold for storage, not for carrying in your arms.
How to choose in 3 questions
- Will you be carrying it? Under 20 kg: Zip or P20.
- How many km do you ride a day? Multiply your round trip by 1.3 and compare it with the estimated real-world range, not the claimed one.
- Are there steep hills? Look for a mid-drive motor or at least 75 Nm.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a folding electric bike weigh?
From around 17 kg for the lightest (such as the ENGWE Zip) to over 30 kg for folding fat bikes. Above 20 kg, carrying it up stairs every day gets hard.
Can you take a folding electric bike on the train?
On most Cercanías and Rodalies commuter services in Spain, folded bikes travel as hand luggage. It's worth checking each operator's conditions and choosing a light, compact model.
How much real-world range does a folding electric bike have?
As a rule of thumb, divide the battery's Wh by 10–14. A 720 Wh battery usually gives between 50 and 70 km real-world with medium assistance.
